Michelle Swanson
Division 7 - Clearwater County

I am seeking re-election for Division 7 councillor.
As a local farmer (pasture raising poultry, custom grazing livestock), and running a hospitality business (thru Airbnb), I also enjoy being active as a community volunteer (Frisco Hall Board, Rocky Air Show, ATB Tour of Alberta, 2019 Inaugural Alberta Masters Games).
In the past four years, council has faced numerous unforeseen outside challenges. It brought purposeful debate among residents and council. As I listened to your concerns, advocating your priorities in council, I also looked for ways to keep you informed. Livestreaming council meetings were one step in that direction for more transparency and accountability for all county constituents.
Having open and honest conversations with our constituents, municipal partners and the First Nation neighbours will be critical to the success in our region going forward.
I would like to see the Stronger Together Agreement reinstated with clear direction for livestreamed meetings twice a year with a new common vision for our region by Q2 2022.
What I have also heard is for a balance of development within the agricultural lands while still protecting rural livelihoods and the rural lifestyle.
Growth in tourism and new innovation in renewable energy will also need new guiding policies to foster economic growth.
I will work with the new council to balance the environmental, social responsibility, economic growth while working to diversify our region.
Good governance, dedication, accountability and clear communication are the cornerstones of my service leadership.
I want to say thank you to Division 7 residents for the opportunity to serve.
I would be pleased to take your calls, emails, direct messages or we can talk outdoors. Call 403-844-3222, email: swansonrockymtn@gmail.com, or visit my Facebook page: Clearwater County Division 7 Candidate Michelle Swanson.
