A hit and run on the Sunchild First Nation has claimed the life of 33-year-old Andrew Frencheater.
On July 29, at approximately 6:30 a.m., RCMP received a complaint of a male lying in the ditch on the side of the Sunchild Road.
RCMP located Frencheater, and confirmed that he was deceased. An abandoned vehicle was located nearby and seized for investigation.
RCMP collision analyst and Red Deer RCMP Forensic Identification Section were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.
The investigation revealed that Frencheater had been riding his bicycle on the side of the road when he was struck. RCMP believe that the accident occurred sometime before midnight on July 28.
After conducting several interviews, a suspect was identified and arrested. Thirty-one-year-old Candace Chipaway has been charged criminally with failing to remain at the scene of an accident. Chipaway has also been charged under the Traffic Safety Act.
A judicial interim hearing has been held, and Candace Chipaway has been released on a recognizance with conditions. Her first appearance in Provincial Court in Rocky Mountain House is August 7, 2019, at 10:00 a.m.
