Minor football returns under guidelines
By Glen Mazza

Rocky Rebels Minor Football will make its return to Rocky this summer with special COVID -19 guidelines from Football Alberta
Registration for Atom and Bantam is on June 24. Peewees register on June 25 and anyone who missed out can register on June 28. See the Facebook page and website for details.
“We are optimistic that kids are excited to get out and actually participate in sports and get back at it again,” said president Doug Laut.
“Football Alberta has a COVID protocol that we will be following.”
There is a maximum cohort group of 50 athletes and players can’t be part of another sports cohort group. If they are, they must keep them 14 days apart. Strength and conditioning camps could be considered differently if there is physical distancing.
Laut said they can’t have somebody on a football cohort group who has been in a hockey camp unless there is enough time in between.
There will be special measures with distancing where possible, equipment will be sanitized, there will be a water bottle policy and there will be adjustments to drills.
There will also be limited access to the field to keep the athletes safe.
The actual season could start mid to late August with games after the long weekend.
Outdoor sports are being limited to what is described as mini leagues during Stage 2 of Alberta’s relaunch strategy.
Rules could change significantly during Stage 3 or if a rebound in cases occurs.
Football Canada sets out the rules for Football Alberta and its leagues and they all will be operating according to health guidelines.
