Gail Laura Rathwell
March 10, 1941 – July 6, 2025

Gail Laura Rathwell was born to Mary and Stanley Nickle at Rimbey, Alta., on March 10, 1941, and passed away July 6, 2025. She was the second in line of six children and grew up going to school in the Rimbey area. There she met and married Murray Rathwell and they had two daughters, Sheila and Laura. They moved from their farm west of Rimbey to Alhambra and then Eckville.

Gail was the strongest, kindest, most positive-thinking person you could know. We were very lucky to have her as our centre, our mom, granny, wife, favourite aunt, sister and friend.

She trained at the U of A and was a teacher at both Rimbey, David Thompson High Schools, and then Pembina after retirement. She thought math was fun and that you would think so too if you just “monkey around with it a little bit.”

Gail was up for lots of activities and snowmobiled, quadded, waterskied, cross-country skied, got cord after cord of firewood with Dad, and walked for miles. She always looked forward to meeting the crew for floor curling and crib in Eckville. Going out for dinner theatre and lunch was her favourite!

Gail leaves behind her daughter Sheila Rathwell; daughter Laura (Brent) Raivio; grandkids: Samantha (Logan) Schenk, Kyle Cooke and Johanna Cooke; three great-grandchildren: Augustus, McCoy and Flint; brothers: Jim (Sharon) Nickle and Ken (Donna) Nickle; sister Norma (Wayne) Stobbs; and numerous extended family.
She was predeceased by her husband Murray Rathwell in March of this year; her parents Mary and Stanley Nickle; two sisters: Betty (Eric) Gray and Doris (Jim) Booth.

As per Gail’s request there will be no funeral service. If desired, memorial donations can be made on behalf of Gail to the Eckville Manor House Charitable Society, Box 932, Eckville, AB T0M 0X0.
