David James Sparks
Feb. 13, 1944 – Jan. 22, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of David James Sparks, who died at home on Jan. 22, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on Feb. 13, 1944, in Calgary, David was the youngest of three children and the only boy. He shared a close bond with his two sisters, a connection that remained strong throughout their lives.

David was the devoted husband of Violet Sparks for 55 beautiful years and a proud father to Timothy Sparks, Cherina Sparks (spouse David) and Jonathan Sparks (spouse Carol). He was a beloved grandfather to KC and Owen, step-grandfather to Tyler, Johnathan and Thomas Pfaff, and a cherished brother to Teresa Taekema (spouse Sydney). David was predeceased by his sister, Cathryn (Vlad) Brecka, and his parents, Clara and James Sparks.

The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in David’s memory to organizations that he supported in his later years. Suggested charities include the Edmonton Cross Cancer Institute, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Edmonton Humane Society.

A memorial will be held at Memories Funeral Home (13404 St. Albert Trail in Edmonton, Alta.) at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2025. Viewing will be available starting at noon. A reception will be held after the service.
