Mary ‘Esther’ Atkinson
Nov. 12, 1918 – May 23, 2019

Mary Esther Atkinson passed away peacefully on May 23, 2019, at the Clearwater Centre, Rocky Mountain House, Alta., at the age of 100 years.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1918, on the family farm at Bigstone, Alta., near Youngstown where she spent her childhood. In May of 1932, when she was 13, she moved with her family to the Carlos District. She continued with her schooling at Washington Heights and Rocky Mountain House. In 1970, she married Fred Atkinson and they resided in the Rocky district where Esther has remained until her passing.
Esther was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1975, her father Arthur Parsons in 1939 and her mother Alice Parsons in 1973, her brothers, Charles, Leonard and Roy Parsons; sister Ruth Casey; half-brothers, Bob and Jack Roberts, Howard and Leslie Parsons; half-sisters, Grace and Laura Parsons.
Esther had no children of her own but will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial tea to celebrate Esther’s life was held at the Rocky Funeral Home, Rocky Mountain House, June 10, 2019. Cremation had been entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alta.
