Joanna Marie Dittrich
July 14, 2021

Joanna Marie Dittrich (nee Nichols), aged 75, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at home, lovingly surrounded by family and pets.
Joanna is survived by her husband, Craig Dittrich, daughters Autumn Griffith and Naomi Burgess, sons Josh Dittrich and Rob Stringer, and adopted father Kris Karlsson. She was also a loving and proud grandmother to Jackson Dittrich, Madison Pongracz, and Emma and Matthew Stringer.
Joanna used her talents and strengths in a wide variety of ways, often in service to others. During her lifetime, she became a nurse, studied drafting, developed programs at Keyano College, and pursued her B. Ed. Joanna made friends everywhere she went — greeting everyone with her warm smile and caring heart — always giving of herself, her time, talents, and attention. It was not uncommon for Joanna to regularly check in with friends and extended family or set an extra place at the table or deliver a meal for others in need.
Her creativity shone through in many ways. Joanna was an accomplished cook — rarely using recipes. She delighted in preparing food for family and friends. Whether a simple meal, birthday cake, or even wedding cakes, every dish was made with love, and remembered fondly by others even decades later. She designed and made numerous costumes for school plays and was an accomplished artist. All these gifts she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She even helped design and build three of the homes in which she lived.
Joanna was cremated and interred in a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joanna’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or Foothills Cancer Clinic (www.albertacancer.ca) and are appreciated.
