Darrel Robert Doran
Feb. 22, 1950 – June 5, 2018

Darrel Robert Doran passed away peacefully at Rocky Mountain House Health Centre on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the age of 68.
Darrel was born in Ponoka, Alta., on Feb. 22, 1950, the son of Edward and Edna Doran. Darrel rode the rodeo circuit as a saddle bronc rider in his early years before meeting the love of his life, Judie, in Ponoka. From there, they married and moved north to High Prairie to farm and raise their children. After 11 years in High Prairie, they moved south to Rocky Mountain House where Darrel worked as the administrator for Alberta Career Development and Employment for 15 years. Wanting to return to more of his roots, Darrel decided to leave the government. He spent his remaining years in Rocky Mountain House tending to his farm and horses on his own piece of paradise, the family farm just outside Rocky.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Judie Doran; his three sons: Sean (Lisa) Doran, Justin Doran, and Richard (Amanda) Doran; his five older siblings: Melda Bragg, Lavern (Gwen) Doran, Joan Gates, Dallas (Mel) Doran, Jean (Don) Lindell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Darrel had a passion for many things but especially music and horses. If he wasn’t busy playing guitar, he was busy riding horses with his loving wife and friends. The greatest joy of his life by far was his love for his wife and family. A quote from Judie put it succinctly: “He may not have been perfect, but he was perfect for us.”
A celebration of Darrel’s life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Rocky Funeral Home in Rocky Mountain House. All are welcome to attend. Cremation entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alta.
Memorial donations in Darrel’s name may be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada, 205 Horton St. E, Suite 203, London, Ont., N6B 1K7.
