Debra Lynn Johnston (Lyster)
Aug. 30, 1961 – Aug. 8, 2019

Debra Johnston passed away at her home near Alhambra, Alta., on Aug. 8, 2019, with her husband Robert and her friend Colleen by her side.
Deb was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alta. on Aug. 30, 1961 to Pat and Rilla Lyster. She grew up and went to school in Rocky, then moved to Red Deer to attend Reeves Business College.
She married Robert Johnston on Nov. 17, 1979, in Rocky Mountain House and their first home together was west of Rocky, in what is now Pinewood Estates. In 1981, they moved to the Johnston farm where she resided until passing.
Deb loved to travel, garden, do crafts and spend time with family and friends. She felt it was important to give back to the community and spent countless hours volunteering and fundraising at her son’s schools. Deb served for many years on the Alhambra Hall board and then on the board of West Country Family Services until she had to step down due to health reasons.
Debra is survived by her father Pat Lyster of Rocky Mountain House, her husband Robert, her sons, Colin (Tashina) of Nanaimo, B.C., and Gregory (Cassidy) of Sylvan Lake, Alta.; brothers, Tim (Colleen) and Wes (Sheri) both of Calgary, Alta.; sister Michelle (Paul) of Sutton, Ont. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Debra was predeceased by her mom Rilla Lyster.
A memorial service to celebrate Deb’s life will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Rocky Mountain House, on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at 1 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium.
Memorial donations in Debra’s name may be made to the West Country Family Services or the charity of the donor’s choice.
