March 14, 1945 – Feb. 4, 2021

Karen Gail Lowry (Shearer) passed away suddenly on Feb. 4, 2021. at the age of 75. Karen was born in St. Albert, Sask., on March 14, 1945, to parents Wanda (Giesbrecht) and Gordon Shearer.
Life had taken Karen to live in many towns, Rocky Mountain House was where she started and finished school while living on the Taimi Road. After finishing school Karen got married and began to travel again with her husband, while on the road they had four children. Karen eventually ended back “home” in Rocky Mountain House in 1979 where she resided until her passing.
Karen will be remembered as a master gardener and decorator, “Kool-Aid mum” who had doors that were always open. She loved road trips, dirt roads and thrift store finds. The family was very proud to say she was one of the first ladies out in the oilfield in the ’80s and that she worked very hard.
Karen is survived by her children: Rhonda (Michael) Lowry, Shane (Wendy) Lowry, and Nikki (Myron) Johnson; grandchildren: Trina Lowry, Charlie Lowry, Carter Lowry, and Jesse Johnson; remaining siblings: Norman Shearer, Sheila Thompson and Russ Shearer; special nieces: Terri and Jodi; also left behind is her long-time companion Robert “Bugs” Ross and her boss/business partner of 40 years Maurice Galli.
Karen was predeceased by her parents Wanda and Gordon, her brother Chester, and her charismatic son Derek.
A Celebration of Karen’s life was held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home on Feb. 22, 2021, and Karen was laid to rest beside her son Derek at Pine Grove Cemetery, Rocky Mountain House, Alta.
