Thad Thomas Rear
March 9, 1942 – Sept. 28, 2018

Thad Thomas Rear entered into rest on Sept. 28, 2018. He was born in Eckville, Alta., on March 9, 1942.
Thad was predeceased by his parents Bert (1995) and Ruby Rear (2012), his brother Kevin (2014) and father-in-law Paul Petersen (1997) and mother-in-law Rosemary Makela (2000). Thad married Patricia (nee Petersen) on June 24, 1972, and they resided on the family farm originally established by Thad’s parents. They recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
Thad was the proud father of Kathaleen (Mike) Hicks, Jennifer (Garth) Doll, Peter Rear and Caroline (Dave) Maitland. He was also the proud grandfather of seven grandsons and three granddaughters.
Thad’s early years were spent on horseback chasing big horn sheep in the mountains. After marriage and children, Thad established his own mill and spent many years logging and cutting timber. Thad was larger than life with his big smile and open friendly personality. He was always creating something and amazed everyone around him with his tipping table and homemade boiler system.
His family will always remember him as a genuine cowboy who taught us all how to ride horses and look for adventure in the day-to-day moments. He was loved by everyone in his family and gone to soon.
A celebration of Thad’s life will be held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at 11 a.m.
Cremation has been entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alta.
