Frances Mirrie Teskey
1928 – 2020
Frances (Fran) Mirrie Patterson was born in Red Deer on June 13th, 1928 to Elizabeth and Frank Patterson. She was raised on the family farm at Alhambra with her older brother Leaman. In 1941 Leaman became a Prisoner of War (POW) after the Dieppe campaign and mom, at the age of 13, graduated from grade 9. She stayed at home for two years helping on the farm until the age of 15. That year (1943) she moved to Red Deer and finished high school at Central High School. Mom then moved to Rocky, began work at the Treasury Branch, met and married Wes Teskey, and began a family. Carol was born in 1948, Bill in 1950, Pat in 1952, Barbara in 1954, and Christina in 1964. Mom had resumed working for the government again in 1959 and worked for the Treasury Branch until 1962, Social Services until 1970, and Alberta Forest Services as Office Manager until her retirement in 1987.
Mom and Dad both enjoyed flying with son-in-law Ray and visited Christina and Mark in Yellowknife and later Burns Lake as well as Barbara and Pat in Drumheller on several occasions. As well, they enjoyed random trips with Ray to Vancouver and Kamloops to pick up airplanes.
She and dad became world travellers after they joined a home exchange group in 1983 which they belonged to until 2003. In that time, they made over 30 international trips enjoying themselves thoroughly whether they were visiting Manhattan, or a tiny Mexican village. After dad’s death in 2003 mom continued travelling, joining Barbara and family on trips to Cuba, China, and the Panama Canal. She visited Christina and family in France and backpacked through Europe with granddaughter Lisa.
She was predeceased by her father Frank (1968), her mother Elizabeth (1986), her husband Wes (2003), her sister-in-law Jo (2005), her brother Leaman (2014), two grandsons Sean (1985) and Joey (2005) and a special cousin Peggy Gregory (2019).
She leaves to mourn her passing her five children and their spouses: Carol (Ray) Williams, Bill (Theano) Teskey, Pat (Wilson) Southam, Barbara (Pat) Murray, and Christina (Mark) Viewig, former son-in-law Earle Houghton, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, caregivers Teresa, Bonnie, and Anastacia as well as animal companions Kittsie, Missy, and Snooks.
She was an amazing woman who lived an amazing life. We will miss her with all our hearts.
