The Rocky Lanes bowling team is headed to nationals in April.
After a close win during the provincials, which were hosted in St. Albert, Alta., in January, the team is set to compete against the best bowling teams in the country.
“You’re looking at the provincial champions, we’re going to P.E.I.,” said coach Bonnie Melmas.
“It’s very exciting,” said teammate Sheryl Ashley.
The team, put together based on individual achievements at local, regional and provincial levels, will head east at the end of next month and all members agree that they have a good chance at medalling.
“We’re a pretty solid team,” said Ben Borley.
His wife Tamara, also on the team, agrees, saying, “We’re hoping to come home gold champions.”
This is the second year in a row that the Rocky Bowling lanes team has gone to nationals. Last year, the team took home silver after competing in Manitoba.
As for why competitive bowling? All members say that it’s a social sport, without being too competitive. It takes skill and it’s just a fun way to meet new people.
